LOWRI BLAKE

Chamber music

rehearsal at croze

Lowri meets up regularly with friends in South-West France for a series of chamber music concerts.  Masterminded by violinist Malcolm Layfield, the concerts have taken place in Martel, Sarrazac, Château de Croze, Saint Pompont and at home in Belle Serre.  The other players have included pianists Ian Brown (Nash Ensemble) and Roy Howat, viola player Paul Martin, and bass player Jiri Hudec (principal bass of the Czech Philharmonic).   In summer 2006 they performed the Schubert C major quintet, and this summer they performed the Mozart G minor piano quartet, Rossini's Duetto for cello and bass, and Schubert's Trout Quintet.  In 2008 Lowri, Malcolm and friends are planning concerts in Vénès, Château de Croze, Saint Pompont and Simorre.

Lowri participates regularly in the Open Chamber Music season at the International Musicians Seminar, Prussia Cove, Cornwall.   In 2007 she worked on Mozart's C Major string quintet and Beethoven's Archduke Trio with partners including violinist Thomas Gould and pianist Connie Shih, culminating in a performance at  one of the beautiful local churches.  Lowri has been associated with IMS since studying there in the 1980's with its founder, violinist Sandor Vegh, and cellist Johannes Goritzki.

In summer 2008 Lowri will be playing more chamber music on home territory, in the A Portée de Rue festival in Castres.  She'll be taking part in two concerts, playing the Schubert C major quartet with the Quatuor Elysée from Paris, and playing and singing Rossini with soprano Florence Launay and pianist Andrew Wilson-Dickson.
